UFC 172

MAIN EVENT: JONES VS TEIXEIRA

Definitely not as anticipated as Jones vs Gustafsson rematch, but this card had its main attraction on the Main Event, thats for sure.

Jones as the undisputed champion was set to fight once again, after his much heated fight at UFC 165 back in September, facing the not so popular but kind of a veteran, Glover Teixeira.

Personally, i wasnt the most excited for this fight. Despite Glover's 20 years record of no-losing, those 20 years werent full of fights or nothing like that. He fought at the most 3 times a year and not every year. He even had a visa problem that took him back to Brasil and didnt allowed him to go back to the US for quite some time (years).

Of course, as a fan, i was going to watch no matter what, especially because who ever won would face Gustafsson, and seriously.. how big the upset would of been if Glover had actually win? HUGE!! Everybody is going b-a-n-a-n-a-s  about the Gus vs Jones rematch, i mean.. the first fight was quite the epic one!!

Anyways.. Jones won by faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar, Glover didnt do anything, in my opinion, to take the win. Everybody and their mother was waiting/expecting Glover to knock Jones out or at least have a close attempt. DIDNT HAPPENED!! Not even close.. he throw the punches, that for sure, but none of them had a nearly closed efect to what was expected and Jones even beat him in his own game.

Gotta say, VERY dissapointed in this Main Event. I like Jones (and loved his entrance) but this was no display of his talent (in my opinion) because his oponent wasnt pushing him enough. Gustafsson pushed him to the real limit in their fight and Jones proved the amount of power he has. Not this time.

CO- MAIN EVENT : DAVIS VS. JOHNSON

Anooooother boring performance. YES, Johnson DOMINATED/ MAN HANDLED Phil "Mr Wonderful" Davis, but again, the opponent wasnt making this a fight an exciting one!!

I didnt really knew who to root for in this fight. I love Anthonys over coming story and how, despite going throw 3 weight classes (3!!!) his back at the UFC (after being fired) and had been looking freaking awesome!

In the other side, its so hard for me not to like Phil Davis! The guy is funny, doesnt trash talk (except the attention call to Jones) and its an amazing wrestler. I think deep down my heart i wanted Davis to win just so he didnt make a fool of himself after all of that trash talk?? funny talk?? about him dominating Jones (I know, i reacted exactly the same).

Any ways, clear result: Johnson wins by decision (another factor for boring) and Phil finds himself in the position where he has to fight again ASAP and prove he can really get to a title shot.

SHORT COMMENTS:

1. Rockhold vs Boetsch: Not really boring as that submission was quite technical and fast, but not a fight i will remember past this month. Rockhold looked great, didnt mess his hair as Dana said, and called out the one and only "American Gangster" Chael Sonnen, claiming he will be the one that finally shouts him up. Im down for it.

2. Miller vs Medeiros: Am i the only one that cringed and kind of feel bad for loving MMA when Medeiros PASSED OUT (-big time-) and Miller was just laying down with him, celebrating when he looked fucking dead ..? Impressive submission and control by Miller but that kind of remembered me of all of those comments friends usually tells us about how  MMA is just about killing the other. Anyways, passing that feeling, Miller looked awesome and its now booked for a fight (-war-) with Cowboy Cerrone in July. CANT WAIT (but still feel bad for Barboza)

3.  Holloway vs Fili: LOVED IT! One of my favs of the night, if not the fav! Always rooting for a fight with tons of respect beetween the fighters but still explosive. This definitely delivered and despite being very very close the first round, Holloway managed to submit his buddy Fili in a great submission, in which Fili tapped very soon and repetitly as the referee didnt originally see it (very dangerous situation), that had BlessedMMA taking the win back to Hawai.

OVERAL REVIEW: Great card for being all the fight worth watching and with great outcomes BUT leaving aside Holloway and Fili, the fights werent near close to even and didnt give me the excite i was looking, especially for the main event.
